Couple Finds It Easy to Say "I do!" to Edenton

Close-in Terrace Homes from $199,900 well worth the commitment

Renee DeLong and her fiance Allen Cornelius had looked at neighborhoods non-stop for two days to find a place they could call home for their soon-to-be blended family. "We were worn out from looking," says Renee, "then we read an ad by Signature Homes about Edenton and thought it was worth a ride over there to check it out. It was love at first sight for both of us!" The village, located less than a mile off Highway 280 behind Home Depot on Cahaba Beach Road, was unlike anything the couple had seen.

"We love everything about this neighborhood: the community design, the people who live here, the location. There's such a wonderful atmosphere at Edenton." Renee had previously lived on a 12-acre farm before moving to the village. "I would bush hog for eight hours to keep the place up." Now that she's settled in her new terrace home, she doesn't need a lawn mower. All exterior and lawn maintenance is provided for Edenton residents through their homeowner's association. "I stroll the sidewalks to the gorgeous pool and sit on a chaise lounge and read magazines! It's like being on vacation all the time, like living at a resort."

During the process of selecting their home, the couple mentioned they were looking for somewhere to have their wedding and that one of Edenton's six residential parks would be a great backdrop. When on-site Signature Homes' sales agents Sandra Jasper and Todd Tucker said that could certainly happen, the couple's decision was made. "Why not?" Allen said. "We love it enough to make this our home." So, last Sunday, on a beautiful afternoon in the East Park that leads to Edenton Pool, the couple gathered family and friends (some of them their new neighbors) to witness their marriage vows. "It was absolutely perfect," says Jasper.

Having the right ingredients has made Edenton the fastest selling new home community in Shelby County. "We've sold more than a hundred homes in less than a year," says Tucker. "On May 3rd we're having our release of West Park, which is only sixteen homes on one of our last big parks. It's a very special opportunity and one that will sell-out quickly. Signature Homes has a track record of selling out a release in days, sometimes even in hours. A few weeks ago, one of four neighborhoods had 40 reservations made the first day, and that was for a 37-home initial release." Edenton's astonishing value (you can purchase a three bedroom, two bath brick home with a two-car garage for as little as $199,900) has been key to its success. It's part of a formula Signature Homes has developed that has enabled the company to sell homes in a softer housing market. "People look all over before deciding on something as important as a new home," says Jasper.

"We have friends who have been waiting for this release that watched us go through the process and saw how much we love Signature Homes and this neighborhood. They're excited," says Renee. "Everyone who has visited us here has commented on what a great lifestyle we have." Signature Homes has been the beneficiary of such great word-of-mouth advertising. Nearly half the company's sales come from referrals. The industry average is 10 to 15 percent.

Edenton has a furnished model open daily which is featured in Parade of Homes. For more information, contact Sandra Jasper at 296-0474 or Todd Tucker at 999-8633. Home plans are available for viewing on the company's website at www.e-signaturehomes.com.

According to Tucker, for a limited time, Signature Homes is offering incentives on seven homes in Edenton's first two phases which include closing costs and upgraded amenities. If the purchaser uses Signature Homes Mortgage, there are other benefits, including an option for qualified buyers to move in with no money down.

Who Needs a Vacation When You Live in a Resort-like Community?

Beaumont offers five-star lifestyle from the low $200s

When Cindy Fuller describes what she likes most about her new home in Beaumont off Valleydale Road at Highway 280, it sounds like she's describing a favorite family vacation. "We watch the moonlight together over the lake from our back porch," says Cindy. "It's absolutely beautiful, and its an everyday thing for us because this is our home. Everyday feels like a vacation." The Fullers decided to move to Beaumont along with friends Angelina and Rodney Jones, who live across the street. "We have megaphones and we call to each other from our porches," says Fuller. "I'll ask, 'What are you doing?' and of course, Angelina is always planting flowers. Just look at her yard!"

Flowers, porches, sidewalks, palm trees and American flags give this neighborhood the look of a coastal resort town. It is actually the latest community from Birmingham's own Signature Homes, a company known for creative developments. "Our design inspiration came from Charleston, South Carolina," explains Signature sales consultant Shellie Behrens, "but it could be any All-American hometown where porches line the streets. That's our most prominent feature: our homes all have porches. People love them."

Porches were the original family room for southern homes, a place to gather friends and relatives and to catch up with neighbors. Two-time Signature homeowners Josh and Alicia Hale are continuing this tradition with their young family. "We sit out here all the time," says Alicia. "Our four month old daughter Caroline loves being rocked in these chairs." The Hales first home was in nearby Eagle Trace, another Signature Homes' community. When Beaumont was developed, they were the first family to move in. "We knew Signature would take good care of us," says Josh, "and we love this area."

While Signature Homes deserves credit for creating a beautiful neighborhood, the hometown feel of Beaumont comes from the friendly residents who live there. "Having front porches, sidewalks and walking trails along Lake Heather, that makes it easy to meet people," says Behrens who is building her own home at Beaumont. "Everybody stops to talk and even the dogs have best friends."

The neighborhood will eventually be hidden by commercial offices and retail space along Inverness Center Drive and Valleydale Road. "I tell everyone to come in the Inverness Center Drive entrance first because it gives you a sense of the village that's emerging," says Behrens. "This is one of those neighborhoods that just gets better looking all the time."

The manor homes at Beaumont start in the mid $300s while the cottages start in the low $200s. All homes feature 2-car garages and of course, porches. Some homes offer basements and there are a few manor homes available on lakefront homesites overlooking Lake Heather. The community includes a lakefront park and nature trail. A furnished model home is open daily, and home shoppers can get more information by calling Signature Homes Sales consultants Shellie Behrens at 281-0488 or Anne Lanz at 915-5331. Home plans are available for viewing on the Internet at http://www.e-signaturehomes.com/
